Will they save Minster Marshes?
The campaign Save Minster Marshes is about to hit crunch time as Kent’s most controversial energy project keeps pushing ahead. The National Grid’s plans to put a substation on a massive industrial site covering more than 22 acres right in Minster Marsh are not without objections. That’s not stopped them doing “prep work” long before
Thanet’s £1.8m bus shelter replacement project goes to tender
Highways Magazine is reporting that TDC is looking to spend just shy of two million quid replacing 90 bus shelters around Thanet. The rebuild is scheduled for January, lasting twenty weeks. That is, unless there are delays and they never happen, right. What do you think of this plan? Let me know with a comment,
Southern Water fined £7m over coastal sewage dumping
In a move that will surprise very few, Southern Water admitted to dumping poo in the water. They were fined £7,000,000. Here’s the BBC report: Southern Water has been fined more than £7m for dumping sewage off the Kent coast, causing widespread damage to the local economy and tourism. Goodbye TDC, hello EKUA?
It looks like Thanet District Council (TDC) will be merged combined from two levels of council function into a bigger authority with Canterbury and Dover inheriting part of KCC’s remit for the new area. Will this be good for us? I guess we will wait and see. Until then, let the wild speculation begin. What
Do you play Pokémon Go in Thanet?
Pokémon Go is a popular walking game (a game where you have to walk about to play it). If that sounds like fun, here are some links I found related specifically to playing Pokémon Go in Thanet. Facebook Links Other links Okay, so I expected there to be more links. If you know of any
Broadstairs in the fog
A couple of weeks back, I found myself in Broadstairs with my camera on a foggy day. Here are some of the photos that I took. You can find more of my photos here. The large white building in these photos is Pierremont Hall in Broadstairs (Kent). It was built in 1785 for Thomas Forsyth
I’m taking some time to myself
I write blogs for a few places. This is one of them. This is also one of the blogs that will have to wait for a while. My dad died recently, which has taken my attention elsewhere. The image here is a picture my dad painted. It is called “The Captain”. I’ll be back eventually.
Paperwork blunder means Birchington Parish Council faces another election
The ten-seat parish council in Borchington was, it turns out, bungled to the point that the entire council will have to be re-elected. The mistake was discovered when Cllr Marcel Pooke resigned in September. Normally, there would be a by-election for the seat. This was a problem because there should have been two wards within
Is it just me or is Garlinge the wrong place for a load of new houses?
I’ve been looking into the efforts to put a whole load of new houses in Garlinge. Is it only me who thinks this is not a good fit for the area? It’s not like they include much by the way of social housing; this looks a bit like a fat money grab. I’ve seen a
Is UKIP done in Thanet?
UKIP (and the Reform KCC councillor who defected to them) had a bit of a march or publicity event (or something) planned. The Thanet community was having none of that and turned up in much greater numbers to say so. Celebrations of diversity were held at the same time, too. There were very few UKIP
