Is UKIP done in Thanet?
UKIP (and the Reform KCC councillor who defected to them) had a bit of a march or publicity event (or something) planned. The Thanet community was having none of that and turned up in much greater numbers to say so.
Celebrations of diversity were held at the same time, too.
There were very few UKIP supporters and so many counter-protesters that I had a hard time getting them all in one photo.
Although it is a rough estimate, I’d guess there must have been about 50 people per UKIP supporter.
There were chants calling for UKIP to disband, along with “refugees are welcome here” and “we are the community”. The signs were broadly in support of inclusion and diversity (except for fascists and nazis). One banner read “thank God for immigrants”.
The event ended with the UKIP supporters fleeing across the beach. You have to look carefully, but they are all in this photo guarded by the police.
If that’s all the support UKIP can muster in the district where they once ran a council, I suspect their time has passed.
