I visited Crusties in Broadstairs

I was in Broadstairs yesterday and found myself rather thirsty and a bit peckish. I visited Crusties and was glad I did.

Staff

I could not have asked for a more friendly and helpful staff. The staff were lovely. I don’t mean they were good, I mean they were truly a pleasure to interact with. They were good at their job too. I had no idea what I wanted which is about the most annoying kind of customer but they quickly had me settled on bacon and cheese in a bun.

Staff: Five out of five – no notes.

Food

These days if you ask for bacon in bread, you can usually expect the bare minimum to cover the base. No such short measures here. I got a proper bacon butty in a roll big enough to hold all the fillings.

Tea

I’m a great believer that the teabag and the water need some quality time before the milk comes along. So, when the tea bag and the milk arrived together, I was not expecting much. To my delight, (given a bit of time), it was honestly a good cuppa. It was hot and tasted strongly of tea.

Venue

Crusties is a no-frills establishment. They know their business is marrying up good food and happy customers. I was too busy enjoying what was on my paper plate to be worried about what it looked like around me. What I remember was clean and functional and, after that, I simply didn’t care. If you get the basics right, the trimmings don’t matter half as much.

I’m giving Crusties full marks for a venue that never gets in its own way.

Price

I’m not sure what to say here. The price was entirely reasonable.

I paid £6.90 for a good cuppa and a well-filled bacon and cheese. Given that some people pay more than that just for a cup of tea (naming no names), I think that was darn good value for money.

Final score

I loved my visit to Crusties and have only good things to say about the place. I will be going back the next time I pass that way.
