Thanet named the new business capital of South East
According to this one article from southeastbusiness.com, Thanet has been named the new business capital of South East.
The new study aimed to identify emerging business hubs across the UK, particularly outside busy cities with well-established corporate infrastructures.
It found that Thanet topped the list in the South East region thanks to the highest rate of new businesses being launched in the past year compared to pre-pandemic levels. This is even more impressive against the backdrop of a nationwide 8.21% decrease in startup creation during the same period.
The research compares how many businesses launched across 406 UK locations and regions in the past year versus before the coronavirus outbreak. They analysed quarterly reports from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) on new business enterprises opened between the third quarter of 2017 and the second quarter of 2024.

According to the quote in the article, lockdown drove an increase in entrepreneurship. Thanet saw a particularly large percentage uptick, they said, compared to pre-pandemic levels.
If this is true, it sounds like good news for Thanet.
I would love to hear from anyone who has set up or runs a business in Thanet. Tell me about your experiences, challenges, and your business. Have you seen an increase in new startups?
